PHYSICAL AND  CHEMICAL PROPERTIES :Di  Ammonium Phosphate is generally found in  white crystalline powdered form .It is prepared by reacting ammonia with phosphoric acid .It decomposes itself at its melting point. Its nature makes it incompatible with strong acids , bases and oxidizing agent .It is easily soluble in water and insoluble in alcohol. The PH value of 1% solution is 8 .

SYNONYMS : Diammonium hydrogen phosphate, ammonium hydrogen phosphate, ammonium monohydrogen orthophosphate, ammonium orthophosphate dibasic , diammonium acid phosphate, phosphoric acid diammonium salt .

USES: Di Ammonium Phosphate is used as a fire retarder for fibres, textiles,paper and wood .It is also applied as a corrosion inhibitor and flux for certain elements .Its field of application also includes purifying sugar and in stimulating  yeast growth . In food items, it acts as a nourisher and fermenting agent. It also serves itself as a buffering agent in solution and in dentifrices .  In the agricultural field , it is applied most widely , because it mingles itself with all type of fertilizers .Being highly analysed it is used more conveniently without paying much for it . It can be applied for increasing the ph of the soil(basic) on temporary  basis, but it can act opposite when used for a long term basis.It also acts as an  additive in cigarettes .
